DWA! Project Car / 1985 Porsche 944 / Front Euro Bumper
About four months ago I hit a deer, damaging the hood, passenger fender, headlight and nose panel. I took this opportunity to pick up a 924 turbo hood, and a Euro front bumper.
I purchased thw bumper from a member on rennlist.com, and bekng that the bumper came from England, all of the hardware was rusty. I was able to get most of the screws out, but three of them were extremely stubborn and I ended up having to drill them out. The bumper also had a crack, and the black bumperettes were in bad shape. I fixed the crack with some fiberglass filled the holes for the headlight washers and decided to eliminate the light surrounds and bumperettes. To eliminate the surround, I had to fill a few holes and make a filler panel next the the turn signals. I made this panel out of some scrap carbon fiber I had lying around. I had planned to screw it on using the existing holes, but I had to destroy the threads getting the rusty bolts out, so I wound up bonding it to the bumper with expoxy, and blended it in using a fiberglass bondo.
After about 20 hours of work, the bumper is finally ready for paint. I still need to detail the lights, get new stainless hardware and wire the driving lights, but the bodywork is done. I know that I put waybto much time and thought into this project, but these are the most satisfying car projects for me. I think the outcome will speak for itself and these little details make my 944 stand out feom the crowd.
